Course Outline courseoutline2009.pdf

OFFICE HOURS :  Wednesday 9:45 - 10:45 AM and Friday 2:30 to 4 PM

Students may also ask for an appointment at other times.  I am usually in the office a few hours before our 7 to 10 PM Thursday class.  Students may request a meeting during that time.  Note they will need to make sure I know so that I can open the hallway door to my corridor as it is locked in the evenings.

I have arranged for a course TA to be in the help centre on Thursdays from 6 to 7 PM for extra help.  She will be there on Oct 15, 2009.  Other Thursdays will be announced here, and will occur near the next term test in November.

Exams:   The final exam is now scheduled.  It will be held on Saturday December 12, 9 AM to 12 Noon, in the Gymnasium at Thames Hall.  All students in our section will write in the same room.

A red Staples Calculator was left at the Stat 1024 exam on Saturday December 12, 2009.  It is now at the main office of the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences, Western Science Centre, Room 262.

General Handouts and Information will be posted at

Statistics 1024 Handouts Section 002.

Test 2 information for November 14, 2009.  See

   http://www.stats.uwo.ca/courses/ss1024a/

(about mid way down that page) for the specific sections and page numbers for the 4th and 5th editions for the material to be covered on the test.  The rooms and seating (by name and section) are also given on that web page.

Additional information on Term test :  Table A (normal table) and the small formula sheet are given with the test.

The results of the term test on October 17 will be uploaded to WebCt in the next few days (note posted Oct 22, 2009).  Some 12 students did not enter exam codes or valid IDs and these take time to sort out.

WebCT update information

September 24, 2009 :  The webct SS1024 sec 002 site now has some items posted.

1.  Solutions to the suggested problems are posted in the folder called Solutions for 4th Edition

(there are no questions on a quiz or test discussing how this clever name was chosen)

Some solutions are posted in another folder for the 5th edition.  This is being updated every few days   till all the appropriate solutions are posted.

2  On the WebCt course page there is a discussion area to discuss problem solving and other relevant topics.  This discussion board is checked daily by one of our graduate student Teaching Assistants (TAs) who will answer questions on this discussion board.  She will also let students answer questions for other students and correct these ideas if needed.

HELP CENTRE : This will start on September 28, in Western Science Centre (WSC) 250.   The hours are not set yet, but they are tentatively to be 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM .  It will be staffed by some graduate students in our department.

Check our department web page and specifically

http://www.stats.uwo.ca/ugstudies/default.htm

for the hours, and the particular students staffing it.  A link for this is to be added in the next day or two (that is September 25 or 26) on the list of links on the right hand side of that web page.

Quizzes will be returned and may be picked up in the Help Centre, WSC 250 during its hours.   For those who are only here for the evening course I will arrange a time for a TA to be in the Help Centre for an hour before class.
