Data comes from many sources :  physical world including environment, scientific experimentation, observational studies, industrial processes, corporate data including insurance companies, financial world

All of these data sources have a signal which is masked by noise.  Statistical methods view this noise as random and has methods to deal with quantifying this randomness and ability to make predictions.
